FAITH LESLIE

Perilous historical adventures and pure, Christlike romance.

You’ve always loved how historical fiction brings you back in time. At the Christian bookstore, you find a new book that promises adventure, secretive characters, and a rich setting.

You don’t see any mention of romance, so you take it home and settle in your reading nook. The characters hook you instantly. You unravel their secrets as you travel deeper on their journey. A love interest joins the adventure… unexpected, but perhaps all right. Then the love interest gets too close and goes too far… nothing explicit, but you’re left with a hot face and a sick feeling in your stomach.

Why did it have to go there? You put the book in the donation pile, feeling too unsettled to finish, but the character’s mysteries linger in your mind, begging you to keep reading. You pick up another book instead, one a friend recommended. It’s clean, but lacks the depth and adventure of the last book. Why can’t there be both? Are all the good historical fiction books off-limits now?

You don’t have to sacrifice your purity to read the books you love.

MEET FAITH

I always wanted a sister, but got four brothers before getting a sister twenty years younger. Being homeschooled meant I was around boys a lot more than girls. I find myself naturally telling stories from a young man’s perspective, stories with action and adventure that my brothers would appreciate and a historical romance that I can appreciate. In my spare time, you can usually find me crocheting one of my many concurrent projects, a hobby I collected when people complained that I needed to get my nose out of my book.
